Dear Presidents & Delegates

Please pass this onto all your members, there is still time for any interested juniors to register. This is an extremely important program to ensure we have umpires coming up through to cover our games

The North West Metro Cricket Association’s junior umpiring program is on again this season. Last year we had over 25 kids umpiring on a regular basis.

Every year we arrange for the WACA to run a Level 1 umpire training course to introduce new kids to umpiring. Umpiring is an important part of developing junior cricketers for the future. It teaches them the finer points of the game and about respect for officials. It also provides an alternative pathway for kids who enjoy their cricket but perhaps aren’t able to reach the highest levels. Having an “official” umpire at their game also adds enjoyment and interest for the players.

This year the WACA is running two training courses – one north and one south of the river. Details are in the attached letter.

The course is targeted at those who play U15s and above on Sundays, who will be allocated the younger age groups on Saturdays as soon as they are trained up. Umpires who are allocated a game will be paid $50 per day. Hats and shirts will be provided.

Clubs are invited to nominate junior cricketers U15 and above who are available for the training, and available on some or all Saturday mornings during the season to umpire. Umps who did the training last season and would like to do a refresher are also welcome.

Please RSVP direct to Simon Hicks but also copy me in at ainsmark@optusnet.com.au so I can keep track of who is going.

Just a heads up on umpires availability for the start of the season

We have 14 confirmed for this Saturday so all U14 matches are covered and all except one U13 match.

We have six registered for the training on the 20th plus a few who are trained but not available on week 1 so from week 2 onwards we will have all U13s covered plus half of the U12 matches (if everyone is available).

We also have two that can only do Sundays due to districts commitments on Saturday. That is 23 all up that are fully committed at this stage.
